TEXT: Help your doctor to help you.

The twelve leading causes of death in advanced countries are now heart disease, cancer, stroke, accidents, flu, pneumonia and bronchitis, diabetes, birth injuries, cirrhosis of the liver, congenital malformation and suicide.

Our vices catch up with us: cigarettes, alcohol, physical inactivity and overeating are the major contributors to the causes of these killing diseases. Medicine has little help to offer for those self-inducted condition of ill health. Surgery is the only treatment which offers a chance of long time survival for people with long cancer.

Psychiatrists are also singularly unsuccessful at stopping people drinking. Neither do doctors have much success with obese.

How can our health be improved? The answer is simple the though perhaps discomforting. We can do it ourselves. Ordinary citizens are now in the best position to make effective advances in the prevention of diseases.

Then, we would live longer and eradicate more diseases than could possibly be achieved by even the most expensive modern treatments.
