Text

Children’s marriage and the lack of qualified education for girls are caused by gender1 inequality and the idea that girls and women are inferior to men and boys. These inequalities take their human rights from girls and women, which lead to better educate boys and provoke children’s marriages, early pregnancies, sexual violence and gender-based violence. They also prevent girls from getting their sexual rights and health, they limit their travel and remarkably contribute to non-considered and unequal share of the family tasks or housework. In the world, girls from 10 to 14 years old spend on average, 50 percent of their free time more than the boys for doing housework, these are not paid and may damage their education.

Ethnic and cultural discrimination at school is a major obstacle to learning access equality. In Latin America, for example, girls face up bad school environment, gender-based discrimination, violence and sometimes sexual attack which all contribute to bad school results and dropout high rates.

Education is one of the most powerful ways to gender equality. It helps girls acquire varied skills and prepares them for work. Besides, it will develop their self-confidence and communication capacity.

A high school attendance rate of girls may change the situation. People would see girls and young women in different ways in the community where they live. In Ethiopia, a study has shown that girls whose mothers are educated are twice less sensitive to get married before 18 than those whose mothers are not educated. As this reason is not taken into consideration, while talking about the father, we suppose that it is attributable to the mother’s model role.
